About the event
This module covers decision-making across the continuum of care for paediatric middle- ear conditions, including the role and timing
of surgery and factors influencing selection of conservative, medical, or surgical management (biological, cognitive, psychological, social, and wider health determinants). It reviews medical comorbidities relevant to surgical and anaesthetic risk, including pre-optimisation pathways and contraindications. Content includes grommet insertion techniques, prognostic factors, expected outcomes and timeframes, and post-operative precautions (including water precautions and options such as custom swim plugs). Pharmacotherapy teaching addresses common analgesics and oral/topical antibiotics used for post-operative issues, including dosing principles, indications, contraindications, interactions, adverse effects, and clinical relevance.
